The aim of evaporation is to concentrate a solution consisting of a volatile solvent and a non-volatile solute. This unit operation is achieved by vaporizing part of the solvent to produce a concentrated solution.
Climbing film evaporator is chosen for the teaching unit as it provides exceptionally good visual demonstration of liquid film formation and boiling. In addition, it is able to demonstrate the basic principle employed by evaporators of long tube vertical types.
